Rain showers during the night, morning temperature 62
degrees. The Charleston Harbor waters
were very choppy.
Charleston the Battery in the sunrise. |
The front had moved
off shore by 9AM but the wind from the south was on our nose and waves were 3
feet.in the Coosaw River. The banging of
the boat into the waves and the spray produced leaks. One over our bunk and the other on the shelf
with my things ( purse, computer mouse, books and tissue box.) That in turn meant wet towels.
Beaufort was our planned stop for fuel but they were
pressurizing their hoses so on to Port Royal Marina. It was tricky docking with the wind blowing
us away. My new Boatloop worked very
well. http://theboatloop.com/ On passed Parris Island and into Port Royal
Sound where the waves we were going into were 3 to 4 feet. On by Hilton Head and eventually into the
Savannah River with the current against us.
We had called for a reservation at Thunderbolt Marina where
the Hinckley Yacht Yard is located, but the best is the ½ dozen donuts they bring
to the boat in the AM. They were
full! The nest marina south was Bahia
Bleu. I give it a 5* the showers are great, laundry is free, they
have a screened porch with wonderful furniture and a TV. The staff is very friendly and
courteous.
We were tired after a125 mile day, washing the salt off;
then showers and a drink. Going to the
restaurant a block away was daunting. Not only that the tide was low and the
ramp must have been at a 45 degree angle. I made scrapple and eggs and we had an early night.
