The
morning temperature was 47 and sunny with relatively no breeze. We were underway by 8:30. After much consideration we decided Dave’s
knees and our stamina would not take another long day. We had been traveling hard to meet up with
Coast Guard Auxiliary friends from Reading, PA who are not cruising on a 44’
CSY. They are on a mooring in
Fernandina, FL but need to be home for family matters. They agreed to start their trip home and meet
us at the Jekyll Harbor Marina.
We
arrived at Jekyll Island at 10:45 in the morning with no rough conditions on St
Catherine’s Sound. The restaurant at the
marina was closed but there is a new center about a mile and a half away. We used the marina golf cart and went to the
market for beer and coffee. Prices were
“dear” as my mother would have said.
Interestingly here the golf carts have a yellow light on the
top that must be on when it is moving and the seat belts must be worn. The carts are subject to the same rules as
cars.
We did some tiding up on the boat and relaxed and read. I had a nice Face time with my grandson Nathan.
Roy and Krista arrived about 6:30 and we gave
them the history or the boat remodel. They drove us to the Irish Pub, there was
a wait and the band was too loud for us to visit. Our second choice was perfect, Tortuga
Jack’s, I give it a 5*. Such a great
time renewing our acquaintance (thanks Jim Boyer). They keep their boat in
Anchor Marina in Canton and we talked about Baltimore haunts and our grown up
children. They got off about 9:30 to drive to Reading, PA. Not a problem for a couple who does off shore
passages.
