We left Brunswick Marina with over cast skies and temp of 58 degrees.  Out in the Simons Sound again, waves 1 to 2 feet and white caps.  A wet run across.  We passed the Jeykell Island Marina and commented on how nice it looked and the number of boats on the dock that we had passed the day before.  Across the way other boats bounced at anchor.
Progressing into St. Andrews Sound crashing with waves of 3 to 5 feet.  The dinghy was swaying back and forth and eventually the snap hook from the davit broke and the dinghy was dragging from one davit and filling with water.   Dave got it tied back to the cleat and we turned around and were lucky to get a slip at the Jekyll Island Marina. The starboard side window leaked on to the shelf.  Lots of things to dry out.  That was our fault, we had an indoor/outdoor thermometer clamped in the window. Yes, the marina is a nice place and nice folks.
I showered and did laundry.  Later we borrowed the loaner car for an hour and took a short tour of the island and a walk through the museum.  Definitely a place to come back too.
We met some interesting cruisers on the dock and at the bar.  Captain Becky had gone to Camp Seafarer in NC for two years.

We spoke to a captain  who makes the run from Jeykell Island to Cumberland Island twice a day.  He told us that St. Andrews Sound on Wednesday was the worst he had seen it in 20 years.  This sound has the largest exposure to the ocean of any part of the ICW.
Our starting battery is giving us a bit of a problem but we got out of the slip and got fuel.  Off we went for the second try.  Today the waves were only 2 to 3 feet.  A good crossing.
In the Cumberland Range we passed a third dredging barge  on its way up the ICW.  Lucky for us they have always been in a wide area.
Thank goodness for the long johns and undershirt and sweaters and foul weather gear and knit hats we brought.
The tide was with us all day as we approached Florida.
Next we saw the Old Fort on the tip of Fernandina Beach along with the stacks of another paper mill.
The marina fees here are very reasonable, amenities very nice, and right downtown.  On this visit we got to walk the town. The shops are expensive and restaurants abound.
